To Tharpaling

Tharpaling is about an hour drive from Chumey, Bumthang. There are series of temples and other sacred places overlooking the Gyatsa Valley.

It is said that the main monastery was founded by Kuenkhen Longchen Rabjam, a great scholar who lived in the 14th century. The monastery was  also used as a meditation centre by many renowned great masters like Jigme lingpa, Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche, Dilgo Khentshe Rinpoche and many more.

Just above the monastery is the Chodrak, a place where Guru Rinpoche is said to have meditated. There are two temples built at a foot of a huge Drak (rock cliff). There is also a small holy-spring what comes out from the bottom of the cliff.
It is believed that one must visit this place once in life. Moreover it is a beautiful place for outing and hiking.
